My Philosophy

Looking beyond the most visible concern

Dental problems rarely exist in isolation. Crowded teeth may be connected to jaw development. Tooth wear may be linked to the bite, grinding or sleep. A fractured tooth may need more than a simple repair.

My approach begins by understanding the wider picture — teeth, bite, jaws, face and oral function together. Where relevant, I also ask about breathing, sleep and chewing patterns.

The aim is to understand why a problem has developed, explain the available choices clearly and create a plan that supports comfort, function, appearance and long-term health.

I work within a multidisciplinary approach. My team includes ENT surgeons, myofunctional therapists, sleep physicians, GPs, speech and language pathologists, osteopaths and other allied professionals — so that when a concern extends beyond dentistry, the right person is already part of the conversation.

"A deep data dive into your health — before a single treatment decision is made."

The approach

Every consultation begins with listening — to the concern, the history and the wider context. Treatment is never chosen before the picture is clear.

Children & Teenagers

Early understanding.
Treatment at the right time.

The most visible tooth is not always the most important part of the problem. A children's assessment considers jaw relationships, arch width, facial symmetry, oral habits, tongue posture and relevant breathing or sleep concerns.

The aim is not to find treatment for every child — it is to understand how they are developing and determine whether care is needed now, later or not at all.

  • Crossbites, underbites and prominent teeth
  • Narrow upper jaw or high palate
  • Delayed or unusual tooth eruption
  • Mouth breathing or sleep concerns
  • Chewing, swallowing and tongue posture

Adults

Orthodontic and restorative care
planned together

Adult dental concerns rarely exist in isolation. Crowded teeth, an uncomfortable bite, worn or fractured teeth and missing teeth can all influence one another. Treating only the most visible concern may not provide the most stable result.

  • Clear aligner or fixed orthodontic treatment
  • Bite correction and relapse management
  • Composite bonding, crowns and veneers
  • Management of tooth wear and bruxism
  • Space creation for implants and missing teeth

When the teeth show signs
of deeper strain

Grinding, clenching, tooth wear and snoring are often symptoms of something wider. Understanding the cause — rather than simply covering the teeth — leads to more meaningful and lasting care.

Where sleep or breathing may be a contributing factor, assessment is coordinated with the appropriate medical teams including GPs, ENT surgeons and sleep physicians.

  • Bruxism — grinding and clenching during sleep
  • Tooth wear and repeatedly fractured restorations
  • Snoring or disrupted sleep
  • Morning headaches or jaw tension
  • Daytime fatigue despite adequate sleep time
  • Dry mouth on waking
  • Night guard not resolving symptoms

About

Dr Gunjan Modi

Dr Gunjan Modi is a dentist with a special interest in orthodontics and restorative dentistry. Her approach brings together tooth alignment, jaw development, bite function and long-term dental health.

Rather than viewing each concern in isolation, she considers how the teeth, jaws, muscles and oral habits interact — and how these may influence comfort, function and treatment stability.

She provides personalised care for children, teenagers and adults, combining orthodontic and restorative planning with an airway-conscious, multidisciplinary approach where appropriate.

Questions

Frequently asked

What is dentofacial orthopaedics? +
Dentofacial orthopaedics considers the growth and relationship of the jaws and facial structures, particularly in growing children. Orthodontics focuses on tooth position and bite. The two areas frequently overlap.
Does every child need early orthodontic treatment? +
No. Many children benefit from monitoring rather than immediate treatment. Early treatment is recommended only where there is a clear dental, developmental or functional reason to intervene.
What age should my child first be assessed? +
A child can be assessed whenever a parent, dentist or healthcare professional notices a concern. An early assessment does not mean treatment will begin — it allows development to be reviewed and treatment timed appropriately.
What does airway-conscious care mean? +
It means that relevant breathing and sleep concerns are considered as part of the wider history and examination. A dentist may recognise signs that deserve further investigation, but medical sleep and airway conditions require assessment through the appropriate healthcare pathway.
Can adults have orthodontic treatment? +
Yes. Adult treatment may include clear aligners, fixed orthodontics, bite correction, relapse management and coordinated restorative planning.
Is a night guard the same as a sleep appliance? +
No. A standard night guard protects the teeth from grinding. A mandibular advancement device is designed to support the airway during sleep and is considered only following appropriate assessment and diagnosis.
Do I need to know which treatment I want before booking? +
No. The purpose of the consultation is to understand your concern and discuss the most appropriate options. You do not need to arrive knowing which treatment you require.
